Empower the Vision In You Coaching Tip #8
December 11, 2018Empower the Vision In You Coaching tip #10
December 15, 2018Welcome back to “Empower The Vision In You” coaching series of blogs. This is coaching tip #9 in a series over 30 days and each builds upon the one before it.
In the last coaching article, I wrote about coaching tip #9, how successful people don’t allow fear of the unknown and self-doubt to paralyze them from taking action. You are now beginning to learn to control your mind. Successful people are pretty good at doing this. Controlling your thoughts takes a lot of time and patience. The question is, how badly do you want to turn your life around? Is the “WHY” big enough?
So, using the example of losing 20 pounds that I used in a previous blog, I want to show you how the negative self-talk actually works and why it shows up. You’re trying to lose the 20 pounds; and as I said before, it requires some life changes.
So that means some real effort on your part. Well, guess what? You have chosen to be overweight because you want those pounds more than you want to lose them. Why? Because having those 20 extra pounds serves you more than losing it. It is a hard pill to swallow but it is true.WHY IS THAT? Because you get some comfort and satisfaction out of keeping them; OTHERWISE, THEY WOULD BE GONE.THINK ABOUT IT. YOU WOULDN’T BE GOING THROUGH A DIET AND EXERCISE REGIME OVER AND OVER AGAIN. The bottom line is that it is your choice. You are choosing to be overweight because it is easier for you to stay there. You don’t have to do any work. You don’t have to move out of the comfort zone, you don’t have to take any risks, and you certainly don’t have to listen to any negative self talk trying to discourage you from taking control of your life.
How do you know this? As you begin to take charge of your weight, inside you will start to feel a little uneasy and distressed. Also, you can get unpleasant feelings physically. Becoming aware of this will help you to overcome these feelings knowing that they are the natural feelings that the mind tries to exert to keep you from moving out of the comfort zone. Most people don’t even realize that this is what happens.
This is why at least 80% of people who lose weight gain it all back. Using the above example, don’t forget that losing the weight may cause discomfort because it may force others to respond to you in a different manner. Perhaps some of your relationships will change. This will take you out of your comfort zone where you are not feeling safe. Push through it.
Take an area of your life that you would like to improve. It can be finances, business, career, health, family and friends, romance, personal growth, fun and recreation, or physical environment. Think about changing an area for the better. Think about what you have to do to improve it. The negative self-talk will start. Become acutely aware of how you feel inside once it starts. That is a warning signal that you have to change the thought from self-doubt or fear to a positive statement that you repeat over and over to yourself. Overcome the negative self-talk, fear, and potential disapproval, and take the first step into the unknown–that is what successful people do. One small step in the positive direction is a start. You will be on the path to taking more in control of your mind and destiny.
